The following services are available to all patients actively undergoing diagnosis and treatment:
Saliva and Blood Genetic Screening – Columbia Fertility Associates now offers all patients, who are undergoing active diagnosis or treatment, a genetic screening option with a non-invasive test that uses a saliva sample to determine whether individuals carry certain mutations for over 100 different genetic conditions. The screening test is designed to be “universal” in that it can be used by both genders and by individuals of any ethnic classes. Knowing your genetic risk allows you to find out whether you are a “carrier” for genetic disorders that may have a significant affect on your children.
PGD (using laser to do Trophectoderm Biopsy) – during this type of PGD testing, the embryos are biopsied on Day 5 and immediately frozen. When the detailed results come back from the testing lab, the normal ones can be thawed and transferred in a subsequent cycle.
Vitrification – a special freezing technique that freezes the unfertilized egg so quickly, ice crystals don’t have time to form. Since eggs have such high water content, slower methods of freezing can allow for the formation of ice crystals, which damage the cell’s structure.
Autoimmune testing
pICSI - Preferred ICSI - in cases where a patient wants to use ICSI, even though it is not medically necessary for fertilization
HA Sperm Binding – this assay allows the embryologist to select mature sperm to use during ICSI. Traditionally sperm are selected based on mobility and morphology. Now they can also be selected based on their ability to bind to hyaluronan., a property essential to binding to the oocyte’s hyaluronan-rich layers, leading to normal fertilization.
Embryo donation – patients interested in donating their unused embryo’s to research or to other patients are able to do so. Additional screening may be required before your donation can be complete. Please speak with our Donor Program Coordinator for more information if you are interested in learning more about this option.
